A Message From Our CEO:
After two years of planning and months of construction, PAWS and the new Three Rivers Health Family Care office opened January 7, 2008. The new building is located across from Three Rivers High School at 721 Sixth Avenue.
Introducing PAWS — which stands for Prevention and Wellness Services, the unique new program sponsored by Three Rivers Health, developed in collaboration with Three Rivers Community Schools. PAWS saw its first patient on January 9.
Based on a model developed by the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, PAWS makes healthcare and prevention services available during the school day, and expands resources to create health and wellness programs.
This includes treatment of minor illnesses and injuries, referral for additional care as indicated, and health counseling about topics such as obesity, diabetes, and self-esteem issues. One of our first wellness initiatives will bring our health providers together to offer education on child and adolescent weight management.
The PAWS program adds a Registered Nurse employed by Three Rivers Health to the school system. Her schedule complements that of the one nurse employed by the school system. Our overall goal is to make preventive care more accessible to children and teens. We can also provide care during the school day to those students who are sick, as long as their parents have given consent.
Three Rivers Health Family Care — The new and expanded office provides primary care to patients of all ages and accepts all insurances, including Medicare and Medicaid. This location replaces the Family Care office in the lower level of the Medical Office Building 1 on the Three Rivers Health campus. The new site features more space and exam rooms, additional providers, a conference room, and also includes an on-site mental health worker.
The new building, which also houses a dental clinic for people without insurance, was made possible through the collaboration of Northern Michigan Health Foundation, Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency, Community Mental Health, Three Rivers Community Schools, and the County Board of Commissioners, along with Three Rivers Health.
